The Apothecary’s shop

Today, when in need of medication most people are sent with a prescription from their healthcare provider to a dispensing chemist’s, a pharmacy or, as it is known in the United States, a drug store. The forerunner of all of these and more was the apothecary. The name can still be found today in Sweden: “ett apotek” for pharmacy and in Germany “Apotheke“.
